This camp is a very special and magical place.
Staff are incredible and so so wonderful. The camp itself is beautiful. I felt very comfortable and safe. The service and food was amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s very small and intimate and just wonderful.

When can we come back!
This was our 3rd trip to Kulalu and it was as good as ever!
The staff were superb as always and the food was amazing.
Our first time with young kids (4 & 9), we were lucky enough to see plenty of game, the highlight being 4 lovely lionesses who we sat and watched for hours.
The most magical place!
Thank you Tina & team for another memorable experience…

Amazing safari experience
Warm welcoming staff led by (Bush) clean and nice tent, big well-made bed suggestively placed to overlook the river, great food, easy booking process. We highly recommend.
We had a walk around the surrounding Ranch area and though very dry and warm, it’s breathtaking scenery and views.
Room Tip – Plan to visit!

A smidge of heaven on the banks of Galana River
We are repeaters for many years. Small, nice camp with 6 cozy tents only on the banks of Galana River. Great place, great staff – far the best eperience you can get in and around Tsavo East. Thanks to Bush and his team. Will be back end of December

Fantastic friendly staff. Wonderful location
Now the road is tarmacked from Malindi all the way to Sala Gate the trip to Kulalu is easy and quick. I took my family there in January 23 and loved every minute of it. The staff are wonderful and friendly. They understand you are on safari and need some extra services and they provide in buckets. We had only booked one night, but we wished we had booked longer. The views over the Galana River are awesome. The game walk was full of interesting information on animal tracks and their spore. I really cannot recommend Kulalu Camp more.

Perfect peaceful place
What a lovely camp!
Who needs the big lodges when you can go to a place like this.
Great setting at the river with lots to see. Crocodiles in the water in front of your tent, animals on the other side of the river and crossing it.
Tents are comfortable, having no electricity and only solar is no problem. Hot shower is possible whenever you want. Beds are good. Views from your tent are the best.
It’s such a peaceful and quiet place where you can sit and relax all day if you want and see life on the riverside pass by.
Food is a set menu and is very good and fresh. You can let them know what you like or dislike before you get there.
Service was excellent, very friendly staff and owner. The one night we spent there was too short.
We will definitely come back here and spend at least 2 nights.

Rustic Hideout
My first visit to this camp off Watamu… the drive was beautiful along the Galana river and a different terrain.
The camp is small with 5 tents and very private and most of all peaceful.
The beds are ok and during the day quite hot but beautiful from 5pm onwards with a lovely view of the river and nature n sunset.
Meals are served and are fresh and filling …and quite romantic set up with candles for dinner.
Lovely moon sightings and starry nights.
A good place to go and chill for a day or two.

Brilliant little camp
This is such a great camp on the Galana River. We arrived to a warm welcome from the staff, cold flannels, and cold drinks. It is only a one and a half-hour drive from Watamu so easy access from the coast.
We arrived at lunchtime and were served a very good lunch, my partner is gluten intolerant and a non-meat eater, we had informed them when booking and they coped brilliantly with her requirements.
We went for our first game drive at 17.00, taking a spotter, Johnny Smallie, with us. He was brilliant on all our drives and we saw everything! Including cheetah and two bat-eared foxes.
My only gripe was that the shower in the family room was just a drizzle but the staff did their best to rectify this.

Fabulous in every respect.
We spent three nights a Kulalu following two recommendations; we had been due to visit over Easter but COVID meant that we had to delay. We were not disappointed! Set in a truly beautiful spot on the banks of the Galana river, Kulalu is the perfect place to unwind. The tents are comfortable, the food excellent, but it’s the service that really stood out; attentive but not over-bearing, Bush and his team simply could not do enough for us. We owned our own schedule which meant eating when we wanted to, with the staff ensuring we had the most relaxing time. We drove ourselves and spent a day in the Galana conservancy and a day in Tsavo East. Loads of game (no big cats this time though) and each evening we went to Kingfisher Point for sundowners – truly memorable with gorgeous sunsets and plenty of game visiting the river. The conservancy allows night drives which were great fun as we drove back to camp for dinner (with a spotting lamp lent to us by the camp) and we saw elephant, hippo, genet, African bush cat and loads more after dark. Can’t recommend this place enough. Totally relaxing, very COVID-secure, and service the team should be very proud of

A little Jewel
What a lovely welcoming camp. Beautifully situated on the bank of the river. Animals come down to get water. The bird life is wonderful. A small but very welcome plunge pool.
The tents are very comfortable. The staff couldn’t be more helpful.
We will be back”

Peaceful Stay
We stayed at Kulalu for 2 nights to celebrate an 80th birthday. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was very good and we had a very enjoyable time. With easy access to Sala Gate into Tsavo West, this is an ideal spot to spend some safari time.

Great location, great camp
Great Location, – camp directly on the banks of Galana River. Very nice staff, clean, spacious and beautiful tents. 5 tents only, one of them a very spacious family tent – so very private. Very exclusive, fabulous food.
No fence around the camp, so animals can pass through any time 👍
Only 12 km from Sala Gate and around 100 km from Malindi (tarmac road). Entrance into Tsavo East is not necessary, because you can do game drives in the Galana Conservancy. Very private und nice landscape, good game viewing.
At the moment is Kulalu the far best camp in Tsavo East area 😁🧡🥰!
We definitely will be back next year, we fell in love from the first moment!

Peace
It was a delight to revisit one of my favourite bends in the Galana river and to find the camp beautifully re-established after the latest natural disaster. The river itself has changed shape, a few trees are missing, but the site is still as magical as ever. The beds are as comfortable, the showers as generous, and the atmosphere as serene as I remember. We were wonderfully looked after by Bush, who unobtrusively takes responsibility for almost everything, making sure your glass is full, your plate is more than full, and just about everything else is as it should be. He is backed by a friendly and welcoming crew, eager to make sure you have the very best of times.
We had some good sightings on safari but, for me, the real joy of Kulalu has always been being able to lounge outside your tent, or by the bar, and watch the comings and goings of the animals as they come down to the river to drink or to rest in the shade. This ‘activity’ has been hugely enhanced by the new addition to the facilities of a plunge pool.
Sitting or floating in the cool water after a lovely lunch, a group of very relaxed (and, I confess, rather giggly) people, watched warthog and baboon, hartebeest, zebra and impala inter-acting on the opposite bank of the river. We decided that this was undoubtedly the highlight of a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

Wonderful place to relax and experience Africa.
Kulalu Camp is a great place to stay near Tsavo East National Park. You don’t have to pay park fees to spend the night there. If you decide to go into the park or the near-by reserve they are both close by. The camp is well situated right on the river so you can see the animals come down to drink in the morning and afternoon. The people who work there are welcoming and cheerful and you can’t ask for a more relaxing atmosphere. Kulalu Camp is one of my favourite places to stay in East Africa!

Amazing, Memorable & definatley a repeat Trip!!
What a wonderful trip!! By far one of the best safaris I have ever been on.
The staff are fantastic. Very professional, friendly & nothing is too much trouble.
The food provided is delicious & all made fresh, including the bread which is made each day. The soft ‘dinner rolls’ are incredible & so so fluffy.
The ‘tents’ are large, spacious & the beds are incredibly comfortable. The bathrooms are huge! With all the necessities. There is even a small pool which is lovely for a dip after a hot safari before a shower.
I will definitely be returning & spreading the word of our incredible stay.
If you’re lucky one of the local elephants might come & say ‘hello’ to remind you how much ‘in the wild’ you truly are. Don’t worry the staff take guest safety very very seriously & will tell you to wait & let them escort you if they (or other animals) are in the camp whilst reassuring you that there is no threat to you.
The best parts;
The camp is really eco-friendly which is a major plus for me.
We arrived on my birthday & the staff when out of their way to make me a cake & present it at the end of dinner.. Totally unexpected but hugely appreciated.

This camp should be on everyone’s bucket list…
Kulalu is a most comfortable and luxurious camp with excellent staff who will accommodate your every need. Set upon the bank of the Galana River with tents opening to view the opposite bank it is a perfect setting. Relaxing in the sun before going for a sundowner (which is a must) or getting up in the morning for an early morning drive to watch a great selection of wildlife.
The food cooked by Justus at Kulalu is second to none and the service by all staff is courteous and efficient.
James is so highly skilled at spotting even the smallest of creature – he stopped for a tortoise which was just ambling through the undergrowth!! You will see plenty of wildlife during your stay at Kulalu.
The camp also has the advantage of an inter-linking tent so when we come back we can have the children close by (i.e. not in the next door tent) yet having their own ‘camping’ experience.
